NOTE: The Device Assisant (DA) is meant to help identify devices that have the features that have been determined to be needed as part of a comprehensive evaluation. There is no substitute for then acquiring devices and trying the actual device(s) with the user. Many dimensions are subjective (e.g., how the speaker sounds, how much pressure is required to activate a touch screen, how well a display can be seen in full sunlight, etc.), and a list of features cannot replace actual physical experience with a particular device. Please read below for more information about this.

Instructions
There are 2 options for using the Device Assistant online clinical tool:

1) COMPARE ALL DEVICES: Select the AAC devices (listed alphabetically) for which you want information - and you will not be doing a feature-match.

2) SEARCH BASED ON TYPES OF SYMBOLS: First, choose the types of symbols you will be using. Continue to choose the options which match your symbol and device needs. It will select the device category for you, and you will have an opportunity to answer questions about the required features, and the database search will feature-match the devices for you consideration. The Device Assistant assumes that you have either completed or are in the process of evaluating the individual's skills (cognitive, speech/language, sensory, physical, etc.). Once you know the individual's skills, you can then start selecting features on AAC devices which match those individual's needs.

In some cases, you might want to do more than one search. For example, do one with only Pictures with alphabet or spelling (takes you to dynamic display devices), and do another Alphabet or spelling only (takes you to text-to-speech only devices).
NOTE: Leave it blank if you don't know the answer to the question - or if you don't know what it means. Otherwise, the results will be inaccurate.
You can have multiple selections or choices for a single feature, unless otherwise indicated. Leave blank any items of which you are not sure.
On the Step 5, you will be able to de-select the features you do not want to include on the print-out. Be sure and select REFRESH.
Print out device comparison for up to 3 devices side-by-side on a page (depending on printer settings). Be sure and select NEXT 3 for additional devices to print out.
